During pipeline filling, the large orifice remains open so that displaced air can escape rapidly. As water reaches the valve chamber, the float rises and closes the large air outlet.
During normal pressurized operation, small quantities of accumulated air are automatically discharged through the smaller air-release mechanism.
During pipeline draining, the float drops and the large orifice opens, allowing atmospheric air to enter the pipeline and helping prevent vacuum conditions.
The anti-surge function controls rapid air discharge during critical operating conditions to help reduce pressure fluctuations in the system.
